Support

This is an outstanding example of strategic philanthropy in action. It is powered by two leaders in their field, evidence-based, and incorporating expertise with grants. CSP is proud to support Izzy and Jimmy in the development and delivery of the Aotearoa Lifecourse Fund

We are funded by people who want to ensure their giving makes a lasting difference for our children and young people. Our current funders include families, trusts and foundations. We are open to working with other funders to achieve greater outcomes together.

It’s not just what feels good. It’s actually going to do good. We give to the Aotearoa Lifecourse Fund because it’s a more disciplined form of giving. They’re using evidence - like the Dunedin study - to put our donation to the best use possible. The charities they back have gone through a really robust process. I liken it to managing my investments - I don’t do it all myself, I find a fund manager who has expertise. In my philanthropy, Aotearoa Lifecourse Fund are the professionals who can allocate my donations to achieve better results than I can myself.

Our family foundation has been giving in education for a while and I’ve always felt there were organisations missing from our giving that we just didn’t have the time and capacity to discover. When I discovered the Aotearoa Lifecourse Fund, I felt excited at the opportunity to have people with far more expertise than me to research and select orgs that are really making an impact. I love the first orgs that are rooted in scientific evidence from the Dunedin Study and in a te ao Māori context, which I see as integral to success in Aotearoa. We started by committing to a year of funding and now we’re looking to expand our funding and commit to the long-term

“It’s amazing to see how you’re working with Mana Inc - it’s really beneficial to other co-funders like us who don’t have the capacity to do this sort of intensive work you do. My team is highly relational, the intention to support is there, but the ability to be more than the money is limited. The fact you can support with strategy days, as well as things like changing legal structure - we just don’t have the time to do this. It’s a fundamentally different model that’s really needed in the philanthropic sector”
