We will explore why traditional parenting courses struggle to each those who need them most, and showcase how Tūpuna Parenting is redesigning support to be culturally relevant and accessible for whānau. Tūpuna Parenting founder, Elizabeth Harte will host an interactive session demystifying how Māori parenting practices link to western brain science.
The science is clear: the relationship between a parent and their child is one of the biggest factors in how that child’s life turns out. Because of this, governments and charities have spent decades trying to scale up parenting programmes. However, New Zealand’s system is currently dominated by just two overseas models: Triple P and Incredible Years. While they have good data behind them, these Western, classroom-style programmes often fail to engage the very families who need them most.
